VeriFactu is the technical side of Spain's so-called "anti-fraud law" (Ley 11/2021), developed through Royal Decree 1007/2023. It is not an obligation limited to large companies: it affects any business operating in Spain that issues invoices, mechanical workshops included, regardless of size. What changes is not which invoices you can issue, but how the software generating them must behave.
What VeriFactu is
VeriFactu requires invoicing software to be a verifiable Sistema Informático de Facturación (SIF). In practice, this means every invoice issued generates a record chained by a hash that depends on the hash of the previous invoice — so if anyone tries to delete or alter an invoice that has already been issued, the chain breaks and it is detectable — is digitally signed, and includes a QR code that lets anyone verify its authenticity. If the workshop opts to send each record to the Spanish tax agency immediately, the invoice is labelled "VERI*FACTU".
Who it affects and when it takes effect
- Companies (subject to Corporate Tax): mandatory from 1 January 2027.
- Sole traders (subject to personal income tax): mandatory from 1 July 2027.
- It applies to any business issuing invoices in Spain, with no exception by sector or size — a one-mechanic workshop is just as affected as a multi-branch chain.
What happens if your workshop does not comply
The regulation sets out penalties both for software vendors that fail to adapt their products and for businesses that knowingly keep using a non-compliant invoicing system once the deadline has passed. For a workshop, the real risk is not just the fine: invoices issued with a non-verifiable system can be challenged during a tax inspection, precisely because it cannot be proven they have not been altered.
What your workshop's invoicing software must guarantee
- Each invoice chained to the previous one via a hash, so any later alteration is detectable.
- Digital signature on every invoicing record.
- A QR code on every invoice, both on screen and on the PDF printed or sent to the customer.
- No ability to edit or delete an invoice once issued — corrections can only be made through a credit note or corrective invoice.
- Full traceability: who sent each record, when, and with what result.
How TallerOS handles this
TallerOS already has VeriFactu submission integrated through an authorised filing partner: when the integration is active, every invoice and credit note the workshop issues is hash-chained, digitally signed, submitted and given its QR code automatically. This is not a future roadmap item — it already works and is already in real use. We are still validating a handful of specific cases with our partner before switching it on by default for every account, so if you run a workshop on the Premium plan and want to start using it now, reach out through the help section and we will enable it on your account.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is VeriFactu?
It is the set of technical requirements, under Royal Decree 1007/2023, that any business's invoicing software in Spain must meet: every invoice issued must generate a chained, digitally signed record with a QR code that cannot be altered or deleted afterwards.
When do I have to comply with VeriFactu if I run a workshop?
It depends on your legal structure: if you pay Corporate Tax (as a limited company, for example), the obligation starts on 1 January 2027. If you are a sole trader paying personal income tax, it starts on 1 July 2027.
Can I keep invoicing with Excel or a Word template?
No, not once the deadline arrives. A spreadsheet or template does not generate the chained hash, digital signature or QR code the regulation requires, so it stops being valid as a VeriFactu-compliant invoicing system.
Does TallerOS already comply with VeriFactu?
Yes, the integration with an authorised filing partner is already implemented and in real use as part of the invoices module (Premium plan). We are still validating a handful of specific cases before enabling it by default on every account — if you want it enabled on yours now, contact our support team.
